The new "pacela" is born

October 16, 2023 NTT Urban Development Corporation

NTT Urban Development Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tsujigami Hiroshi; hereinafter "NTT Urban Development") will revamp the facility configuration at Motomachi Credo (6 Motomachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture), focusing on the former site of the new Sogo Hiroshima store, and will revitalize the entire commercial facility, together with the currently operating pacela *, as a new "pacela." The new "pacela" is scheduled to open sequentially from fiscal 2025 onwards, creating a commercial facility that will bring new vitality to the ever-evolving Kamiyacho/Motomachi area in the heart of Hiroshima City.

  • *" pacela" is the name of a commercial facility that is derived from the words paseo (walk/Spanish), celeste (sky/Latin), and ala (wing/Latin), as a symbol of the meaning "wings of the sky."

About the rehabilitation plan

  • (1)Facility revitalization concept

Motomachi Credo, which is comprised of pacela, the former Sogo Hiroshima new building, and Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima, celebrated its 29th anniversary this year. Aiming to continue to be a facility that is loved and full of charm by customers, the facility will be revitalized under the concept of "MOTOMACHI CENTRAL BASE, a base that changes the way people spend time in central Hiroshima," and will provide value such as "new experiences and excitement," "the everyday and the extraordinary through food and clothing," and "a unique environmental design."

  • (2)Image of facility configuration after revitalization

Based on the sixth floor, which serves as the junction between pacela, Rihga Royal Hotel Hiroshima, and Hiroshima Bus Center, the high-rise zone will attract service and entertainment tenants aiming to provide new experiences for consumption, such as playing, eating, and relaxing. The lower zone will attract lifestyle-oriented tenants that will add color to both the everyday and the extraordinary, creating a feeling of "it's nice to have in the city center." The new "pacela" aims to be a commercial complex that will create new fans and continue to satisfy long-time pacela customers.

Detailed floor plans and store opening plans will be announced as soon as they are decided.

  • (3)First step in the revitalization: Renewal of the rooftop garden "Sky Patio"

The Sky Patio, an open rooftop garden located on the sixth floor of pacela and offering a panoramic view of Hiroshima Castle, will be reopened in the spring of 2024 ahead of the overall revitalization of the facility.

After the renovation, the facility will create an extraordinary experience in a "one-of-a-kind" space, with plans such as a new large-screen monitor and a rooftop bar that takes advantage of the distinctive night view, as well as a lively environment that families can enjoy, with relaxing fixtures and a water-friendly space with a fountain and water play area. Through this renovation, the facility will function as a place to form an intergenerational community and connect urban activities, and as a point of contact with surrounding park facilities such as Hiroshima Gate Park, in line with the facility's revitalization concept of being "a base that changes the way people spend time in downtown Hiroshima."
