Click hereThe Hiroshima Castle Sannomaru Development Project (Park-PFI Project), undertaken by Hiroshima Castle Associates (a consortium of 11 companies, including Chugoku Broadcasting as the representative corporation), has completed construction of the first phase of the area, which will begin operation at the end of March 2025.
The site, which is connected to Hiroshima Castle's Ninomaru by Gomon Bridge, features commercial facilities incorporating Japanese design elements throughout, trees that change appearance with the seasons, such as cherry blossoms and maples, and a relaxing plaza equipped with tables, benches, and a restroom building. It will also have a surface parking lot, a tourist bus stop, and a taxi stand, and will be connected to the nearby Hiroshima Gate Park and HIROSHIMA STADIUM PARK by pedestrian decks, which is expected to improve accessibility.
This is an area where you can experience Hiroshima's history and culture in any way you like, while feeling the close proximity of Hiroshima Castle's main tower and eating, playing, learning, walking, relaxing, etc.

■Hiroshima Castle Sannomaru 1st Phase Area Facility Overview
First phase commercial facility
Passing through the Omote-Gomon Gate from Hiroshima Castle's Ninomaru and crossing Gomon Bridge, the first phase of the commercial facility will come into view. The open Japanese-style building makes generous use of cypress, cedar, and other wood, mainly from the Chugoku region, and incorporates Japanese design elements throughout, such as rafters under the eaves and rain chains. Wild cherry trees and Japanese maples are planted around the facility.
In addition, a tourist bus stop has been built on the south side and a taxi stand on the west side to improve convenience.

Hospitality Plaza and Toilet Building
The restroom building is open 24 hours a day and is equipped with multi-function and multi-purpose cubicles and security equipment. The exterior walls, constructed using cedar board formwork concrete and featuring a cedar grain pattern, blend in with the Japanese atmosphere. A digital signage screen is installed on the south wall, providing a variety of information.
Additionally, benches and tables have been installed in the hospitality plaza on the south side of the toilet building, making it a versatile space for relaxation.
■Business concept
Hiroshima Castle is the starting point of the city of Hiroshima. After the castle was built, the castle town was formed on the Ota River Delta. It continued to expand through land reclamation, and developed into a political, economic, and transportation center. The area also has a rich culture that has been preserved and passed down, including the Ueda Soko school of tea ceremony, which is a descendant of the samurai class, and Takamori-e, a lacquerware technique established by Kinjo Ikkokusai.
Many historical sites were lost in the atomic bombing, but the history of the castle town itself has not disappeared. Only by making use of history can we create an attractive urban space.
In other words, we have adopted the concept of this project as learning from the past, and will reexamine Hiroshima Castle as a place to experience history and culture, maximizing its potential as a tourist destination.
■Hiroshima Castle Sannomaru logo mark (vertical and horizontal layout)
By symbolizing "Sannomaru" with three circles and the castle ruins symbol as its motif, we have created a logo mark with a simple design that is easy for everyone to remember.
The three circles also represent the past, present, and future, expressing the idea of learning from the past to create something new.
We aimed to create a design that would be loved for a long time as a symbol of a new tourist destination, possessing the dignity of a hub for disseminating history and culture, while also being approachable.
