March 3, 2025

NTT Urban Development Corporation One Bright KOBE Co., Ltd.

We are pleased to announce the completion of construction of GLION ARENA KOBE (2-1 Shinminato-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe City), developed by NTT Urban Development Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yasushi Ikeda; hereinafter referred to as "NTT Urban Development") and operated by One Bright KOBE Co., Ltd. (Head office: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture; President and CEO: Jun Shibuya).

The two companies have also signed an "Official Partner" agreement for the collaborative partnership program. Going forward, in order to operate the arena in a way that is rooted in the local community over the long term, the two companies will work together to collaboratively create new value centered on the arena, going beyond the traditional role of development and operation.

This project is a privately-built and privately-operated arena project by a consortium of three companies: NTT Urban Development, which was awarded the right of first negotiation in 2021 for the Shinko Pier West District (Second Pier) redevelopment project, which was publicly solicited by Kobe City; Smart Value Co., Ltd. (Head office: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; Director and Representative Executive Officer President: Jun Shibuya; hereinafter referred to as "Smart Value"); and NTT Docomo, Inc. (Head office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Yoshiaki Maeda).

GLION ARENA KOBE will be a multi-purpose arena with a capacity of 10,000 people, making it one of the largest in the Kansai region. In addition to hosting home games for the Kobe Storks, a professional basketball team in the B.LEAGUE, the arena is also scheduled to host a variety of events, including professional sports, music concerts, and MICE events. The arena will feature a VIP floor, offering a new viewing experience. Along with several restaurants with open terraces offering the spaciousness of Kobe Waterfront, and TOTTEI PARK, located on the south side of the arena, the arena will also strive to create a lively atmosphere on a daily basis.

Business concept

GLION ARENA KOBE, which will be completed 30 years after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, aims to become a "new landmark that we can be proud of for the next generation." Under the theme of "Raising the heartbeats of the world," the arena will create new surprises and excitement by combining sports, entertainment, and digital technology. In addition, based on the business partnership agreement concluded between Smart Value and Kobe City to "create the future of the city center and waterfront area," the arena will serve as a base for new urban development (regional revitalization) and the resolution of social issues.

Exterior and interior design

The exterior design features a distinctive V-shaped roof, which expresses the image of "spreading emotion and excitement from Kobe and spreading its wings to the world." When lit up at night, it blends into Kobe's beautiful night view, demonstrating its presence as a new landmark.

The seats inside the arena are arranged in a U-shape, and by fitting them into the long and narrow shape of the construction site, the arena will offer a clear view from any seat, providing a realistic and exciting viewing experience.

Performance equipment

The venue will be equipped with a permanent LED screen, one of the largest of its kind in Japan's arenas, a center-hung screen that can be raised or lowered, and a ribbon screen that boasts a total length of 183m. The powerful visual effects that link each screen will raise the excitement of the audience and create a sense of unity that can only be experienced in this place at that time.

Additionally, the sound equipment will feature top-brand speakers used in the NBA, the home of basketball, to deliver a world-class, high-quality sound experience.

The first large-scale arena in Japanto acquire ZEB Ready certification

The distinctive V-shaped roof, which represents "spreading emotion and excitement from Kobe and spreading its wings to the world," optimizes the arena's air volume to match the seating configuration, contributing to reduced air conditioning load. Furthermore, by installing a total heat exchanger and controlling the amount of outside air introduced using CO2 concentration sensors, the arena has achieved a reduction of approximately 52% from the standard primary energy consumption, earning it the highest rating (five stars) under the Building Energy Efficiency Labeling System (BELS). It also became the first large-scale arena facility (capacity 10,000 people) in Japan to receive "ZEB Ready" certification on September 30, 2023.
