The first phase of the Hiroshima Castle Sannomaru Development Project, undertaken by Hiroshima Castle Associates (a consortium of 11 companies, including Chugoku Broadcasting Co., Ltd. as the representative corporation), opened on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Sannomaru was once the site of the residences of the lords and their senior vassals of the Hiroshima domain, as well as the domain's facilities. This facility allows visitors to experience Hiroshima's history and culture in their own way, while feeling the presence of Hiroshima Castle's main tower nearby.
On the first day, the wild cherry blossoms in front of the shopping center were in full bloom. In spring-like weather, approximately 3,000 people (as of 5:00 PM) visited the Sannomaru area of Hiroshima Castle.

Opening Event

To celebrate the opening of the first phase of the facility, an opening event called "Warrior Procession and Celebration of Learning from the Past and Creating New Things" was held, with the theme of "Feel the breath of history and experience a new castle that connects to the future." Approximately 40 warriors, selected from the general public and dressed in authentic armor, participated. A heroic historical picture scroll unfolded as they strutted through the former Hiroshima Castle and headed for the main keep.

The procession, led by commander-in-chief Yokoyama Yuji, announcer (Chugoku Broadcasting System), departed Hiroshima Gate Park at noon. They paraded through HIROSHIMA STADIUM PARK where commander Kubo Tatsuhiko (formerly of Sanfrecce Hiroshima) was waiting, and then proceeded via the pedestrian deck to the Sannomaru (Nanbutsu) of Hiroshima Castle. After enjoying a tea ceremony performed by Ueda Soko, a young master of the Ueda Soko school of samurai tea ceremony, they made a formal visit to Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine. Furthermore, the Aki Hiroshima Samurai Corps and Hiroshima Castle mascot Shirou-nya appeared at the Honmaru (Main Keep) of Hiroshima Castle. Everyone raised their voices in celebration of the start of the new day.
