NTT Urban Solutions Group (Representative company: NTT Urban Solutions Corporation, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Kou Ikeda, hereinafter referred to as "the Group") established environmental impact reduction targets and the environmental slogan "Green Future with US" in March 2022 and has been working to create environmentally friendly cities.
We are pleased to announce that we have formulated the "NTT Urban Solutions Group Biodiversity Policy" today, Monday, October 27, 2025, in light of the importance of conserving and restoring biodiversity in our group's businesses, which include urban development consulting, real estate development, design and facility management, and property management.
About the "NTT Urban Solutions Group Biodiversity Policy"
"NTT Urban Solutions Group Biodiversity Policy"
NTT Urban Solutions Group has adopted the slogan "Green Future with US" as its initiative to reduce environmental impact, aiming to realize a future where people and nature coexist in harmony, and recognizes that the conservation and restoration of biodiversity is an important management issue.
NTT Urban Solutions Group will understand the possibility that land and resource use associated with its business activities may lead to the impairment of biodiversity, and will work to avoid, reduce, and restore these impacts.
[NTT Urban Solutions Group Initiatives]
- Prior to its business activities, NTT Urban Solutions Group strives to understand the local ecosystems that affect biodiversity, and promotes business activities that balance consideration for biodiversity with the comfort of users through urban greening initiatives and the preservation and development of ecosystems.
- Through its business activities, NTT Urban Solutions Group is proactively working to promote greenery and strives to cultivate vegetation that is suited to the local area.
- NTT Urban Solutions Group will conduct follow-up surveys (monitoring) as necessary in areas that affect biodiversity, and will work to conserve and restore ecosystems in those areas.
- NTT Urban Solutions Group will strive to strengthen communication regarding biodiversity with customers, local communities, government agencies, partner companies, and Group employees. We will also provide educational opportunities regarding biodiversity for employees to work on improving their literacy.
Under our environmental slogan, "Green Future with US," our Group envisions a prosperous and sustainable future in which society is decarbonized, resources are recycled, and people live side by side with nature. We have been working to achieve this through our business activities, including urban greening and ecosystem conservation, in order to coexist with nature.
We recognize that the conservation and restoration of biodiversity is an important management issue, and based on this newly established policy, our group will continue to promote initiatives that take biodiversity into consideration.
Biodiversity-conscious business activities at NTT Urban Solutions Group
Understanding, preserving, and nurturing ecosystems
In the integrated development of the Wellith Olive Seijo Gakuenmae housing complex for seniors with services and the Wellith Sengawa Chofu no Mori condominium complex (Chofu City, Tokyo), we took the surrounding environment into consideration when developing the property, including conducting preliminary natural environment surveys of the habitats of rare plants and animals, conducting diagnostic evaluations by arborists, and proactively preserving existing trees.
The "Minna no Mori" (Forest for Everyone) on the site is home to colonies of rare plants such as the golden orchid (designated as endangered species II on the Ministry of the Environment's Red List and the Tokyo Metropolitan Red List at the time of development) and the silver orchid (designated as endangered species II on the Tokyo Metropolitan Red List at the time of development), and efforts have been made to preserve and nurture the ecosystem, including by conducting monitoring surveys for a certain period of time even after development.
Urban greening and vegetation that matches the local vegetation
Naniwa Palace Ruins Park (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) is part of Osaka City's first Park-PFI project under the Urban Parks Act. As part of this project, the city is preserving and utilizing the nationally designated historic site, the Naniwa Palace Ruins and Ensaka Ruins. In developing the park, the city is working to green the entire site by planting and nurturing vegetation that is suited to the area, so that the vegetation will be similar to that of the surrounding environment.
The area, including the southern part of the Naniwa Palace Ruins, is also maintained and managed, and various events are held in the vast green space, making it a valuable place of relaxation for the local residents. Waterfowl can sometimes be seen at the Naniwa Palace Ruins.
Ecosystem conservation and restoration
SIHNAGAWA SEASON TERRACE (Minato Ward, Tokyo) has planted primarily native species in its vast green space and created a biotope, ensuring a favorable environment for the growth of living organisms. An ecosystem survey*1 conducted by experts in 2023 investigated the habitats of a wide variety of organisms, including plants, birds, insects, and aquatic life, and observed a rich diversity of living organisms (189 species of plants, 31 species of birds, 35 species of insects, and 11 species of aquatic life). Among the species spotted was the common kingfisher, which is listed as endangered species (Category II) on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Red List. By securing valuable green space within Tokyo, we are working to preserve and restore the local ecosystem.
- For birds and insects, the survey area includes Shibaura Central Park, which is close to the area.
Biodiversity Communication
We endorsed the purpose of the "Corporate Forest" initiative promoted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Foundation together with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and concluded an agreement. We named a 1.9-hectare forest in Ome City, Tokyo, "Eco-Grandpa's Forest" and have been carrying out forest maintenance activities. In 2017, our group's employees and their families planted approximately 300 seedlings, and since then, we have continued to carry out forest maintenance and cultivation activities several times a year. Through experiences and learning in a rich natural environment, we are creating opportunities for communication about biodiversity and working to improve the literacy of our group's employees and their families.
Under the slogan "Green Future with US *2," our group is actively working on environmentally friendly real estate development to reduce our environmental impact.
