Urbannet Sendai Central Building and
Collaboration with 3 GeV high-brilliance synchrotron radiation facility "NanoTerasu" begins ~ Event held to promote industrial use of NanoTerasu ~

July 25, 2024 NTT Urban Development Corporation

NTT Urban Development Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kou Ikeda) has signed the "Collaboration Agreement for Urban Revitalization" between Sendai City and the NTT Group in May 2020, and the "Collaboration Agreement for Promoting Industrial Use of the Next-Generation Synchrotron Radiation Facility "NanoTerasu"" between the Photon Science Innovation Center (PhoSIC) and the NTT Group in July 2022. Based on this agreement, the lower floors of the "Urbannet Sendai Chuo Building" (hereinafter referred to as the "Building"), "YUI NOS", which opened in March 2024, will be *1 We are pleased to announce that we have started collaboration with the 3 GeV high-brightness synchrotron radiation facility "NanoTerasu."

The "Analysis Room" and "Nap Room" industrial use promotion functions linked to NanoTerasu are now fully operational.

The 3 GeV high-brightness synchrotron radiation facility "NanoTerasu" *2, which has been constructed on the new Aobayama campus of Tohoku University, has been put into full operation since July of this year. The analysis room and nap room were constructed in "YUI NOS" within this building with the aim of promoting its use in the industrial field.

In the analysis room, a remote connection with NanoTerasu allows users to grasp the local situation in real time without leaving the building, and also allows them to view and operate the beamline control PC and obtain measurement data.

The nap rooms are private rooms with unit baths, providing a comfortable environment for long-term measurements over the night or several days.

To use the analysis room or nap room, you must first apply to PhoSIC to use NanoTerasu beamline and to reserve the remote operation system.

Established a consultation desk for NanoTerasu usage

A consultation desk will be set up in the coworking space on the second floor of "YUI NOS" to respond to inquiries from people who are considering using NanoTerasu. A resident community manager will provide initial support and, depending on the content of the inquiry, will match you with experts in collaboration with Sendai City.

In addition, through a community manager, we will support collaboration and community formation among users based at "YUI NOS."

Event held to promote industrial use of NanoTerasu

With the start of the collaboration between this building and NanoTerasu, we will be holding an event to further promote the industrial use of NanoTerasu. This commemorative first event will be a talk event inviting current users and those planning to use the facility in the future.

This event will be aimed at those who are interested in using NanoTerasu, and will provide an opportunity to learn about the overview of NanoTerasu, actual examples of problem-solving, and initiatives being undertaken in this building.

We welcome a wide range of participants, from those experiencing synchrotron radiation research for the first time to those considering using it. We are also planning a networking event at the end of the talk event, so please come along.

The facility will be developed under a new system known as a "public-private-regional partnership (national government entity, the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST)), and regional partners comprised of Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai City, Tohoku University, and the Tohoku Economic Federation, with the Photon Science Innovation Center (PhoSIC) as the representative organization). This "giant microscope" will be able to observe the "nano" world (1 nano is 1 billionth of a meter) using light (synchrotron radiation) that is more than 1 billion times brighter than sunlight. The nickname "NanoTerasu" refers to the "nano world" of materials that will be the subject of research and observation at the next-generation synchrotron radiation facility, and further reflects the facility's distinctive feature: synchrotron radiation is a powerful light that brightly illuminates the nano world for observation.
