A tranquil journey, guided by architecture and space
Capella Kyoto" was founded in 1869 as "Jogaku Elementary School" by local volunteers, and has been loved by everyone in the community. (somebody's) location Shinmichi The hotel was developed on the site of a former elementary school. The design was supervised by Kengo Kuma & Associates and the interior design by Singapore-based Brewin Design Office, expressing the essence of Kyoto as "overlapping spaces. The hotel also takes advantage of its location near Kenninji Temple and the Miyagawa-machi Opera House to incorporate the concept of "ma" (space) found in Kyoto's machiya houses, such as the transition of light and shadow created by the alleyways and shoji screens, throughout the building.
The building features art inspired by "shimenawa," which have been believed since ancient times to serve as a protective barrier and a charm against evil and misfortune, installed at the entrance. It also incorporates the design of the "karahafu roof" seen in the Miyagawacho Kaburenjo, which was developed in conjunction with the hotel, into the courtyard, thus reinterpreting traditional elements in a modern way. Furthermore, building materials used in the former Shinmichi Elementary School building have been reused, resulting in a symbolic building that connects the past and the future.
The hotel has 89 guest rooms, and through the Capella Hotel's distinctive "Capella Curates" program, which is exclusive to guests, guests can interact with artisans and cultural heirs and experience the traditional culture that lives on in Kyoto.
The aesthetics of food and healing
The hotel also offers a variety of facilities where you can spend your time even outside of your stay, including an all-day dining French brasserie facing the courtyard, a Japanese restaurant, and Auriga Spa, where you can enjoy natural hot springs and signature treatments.
In addition to the three hot spring rooms in the spa where you can enjoy natural hot springs, there are six suites where you can also enjoy natural hot springs in your room, providing a relaxing time to relax your mind and body.
